Early Life

David Risqué aka "Global Groove Guru" was born David Robert Christopher Walker on November 11, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois. David was inspired by his mother, Doris A. Harris who was an urban social butterfly in her own right, an educator for the Chicago Public Schools who retired after 35 year's of dedicated service. She was a Cub Scout den mother, consummate organizer and modeled for Ebony/Jet magazine back in the mid 50's. David, also showed an interest in music when his mother gave him a Tony the Tiger drum set at the tender age of five and a piano at the age of eight years old. David's grandmother, Lillian Butler (RIP) was an ordained Evangelical Minister who kept him grounded spiritually throughout his life with her unyielding perseverance, strength, wisdom, and everlasting faith in GOD. His life journeys have taken him across the world to experience far east influences like; Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan. David has always had a tenacious thirst for knowledge and is still evolving into his higher level of spiritual oneness. His father, Willie J. Walker, a retired 37 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and WWII veteran was fortunate to have worked in private security for high profile celebrities such as Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Wilson and Muhammad Ali. David used to study Sammy Davis, Jr. Fred Astaire, The Mills Brothers, and Gene Kelly on TV. David was fascinated by & study TV commercials, print ads, and radio. This gave David an opportunity to have an up close and personal view of what true entertainers were like on and off the stage. Last, and certainly not least, is David's uncle Sherman L. Butler (RIP). Uncle Sherman was a positive African-American male role model that influenced David immensely. David considered his uncle Sherman to be a father figure. He was blessed to have lived, learned and laughed with his uncle, aunt, and cousins. In most circle's of higher learning, David's, uncle Sherman would be considered a "Renaissance Man"; as he was one of the first African-Americans to work for IBM back in the 70's. He was a gardener, photographer, carpenter, sculptor, painter, musician, technically savvy, and DJ with a phenomenal R&B record collection. He was a successful real estate investor, entrepreneur, college professor, and a Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America. He received two degrees from Illinois Institute of Technology: 1) Bachelor of Science in Economics, and 2) Master of Business Administration. David spent many nights growing up as a teenager and adult, talking for hours with his uncle Sherman about, philosophy, astronomy, astrology, economics, being a entrepreneur, musical greats, and life lessons in general. Uncle Sherman was the first family member who believed and invested in David's pursuit of becoming a quality entertainment entrepreneur. The fondest memories and most positive influences David will cherish of his uncle Sherman, was that regardless of all his uncle's interests & successes, nothing was more important to him than his "FAMILY". He has many fond childhood memories filled with family, friends, faith, great food, laughter and celebration.

David later went on to attend college as a freshman pre-med student at Western Illinois University. His passion guided him where he formed the entertainment group, "Gucci Sounds, Inc", which stood for "Gentlemen's Unification of ConCeptual Individuals". Gucci Sounds, Inc. produced the greater part of the most talked about after parties for the fraternal organizations off campus. He also co-founded a non-fraternal social organization at Western Illinois University called the "Dukes and Duchess's". Each member needed to come up with a Sir Name and David came up with the French word "Risqué" because it meant, risky business, different and standing out from the crowd. At that point David Risqué was born! David always likes to remember, recognize, and honor the individual DJ/promoters like: Sam Chatman, Al McCormick, Kirk Townsend, Terrible Ted, and Marvin Terry. These African-American men were creative pioneers in the industry, and all played a vital role in shaping David's professional entertainment etiquette. They were truly positive inspirational role models for him. At the age of seventeen, David organized his first professional event called, "Battle of the D.J.'s" were Celeste Alexander, Eric Woods, Farley JackMaster Funk, Andre Hatchet, Keith Fobbs, Jesse Saunders, Wayne Williams, Steve Duplain, Craig Loftis, Lori Branch, and Hudson Beauduy performed. An inspiring young talent named Steve "Silk" Hurley won the event with a trophy and a $100 cash prize. David's parents were very supportive of his vision and even assisted in the event by collecting money at the door and providing security. The success of the event sparked a flame that motivated David to continue on this path. In 1980, David set up his first of many negotiating deals with Mr. Carey the owner of SAUER'S, that gave birth to promoting and producing themed events at SAUER'S (correct pronunciation "SOURS") which was once located in Chicago's South loop were the McCormick West currently stands. Sauer's had a huge palm tree located in the middle of the dance floor along with a huge crystal ball above it. David also produce highly successful splash parties along w/partner Robert Ellis aka "Batman" @ UIC & Chicago State University swimming pools. David Risqué is the first and only DJ/Producer/Promoter back in the early 80's who had the honor, respect, and fortitude in booking both the Grammy Award winning Frankie Knuckles, and the legendary Ron Hardy (RIP). It would be hard to fine a DJ/Producer (A to Z) of any significance in Chicago that has not been promoted by David Risque.

Career

As David began to come into his manhood, he felt smothered and a sense of dissension in his home and desired a new challenge. In 1982, David Risqué enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. There he learned the art of self-defense and acquired great character traits of integrity, knowledge, courage, endurance, loyalty, etc. Stationed on the island of Oahu, David was able to promote and produce two events at Kaneohe Marine Corp Air station. David Risqué was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1986 and returned to Chicago. There he obtained his CDL license and began producing events until relocating to New York in 1987. In New York, David Risqué worked at Uptown/MCA records and made connections in the extremely competitive New York nightlife and entertainment industry. During this time David became a hugely successful freelance Executive Assistant with a flexible contract with 11 temporary agency. This allowed David to be able to moonlight as a back-up dancer with two recording artist; 1) SBK recording artist DeBora, and 2) Indie House Queen Screamin' Ratchell. This was a defining moment in David's life refining his skills at hosting, security, acting, modeling, marketing, promotions, and performance artistry. David found his New York experience to be a rewarding positive evolutionary growth toward his mental, physical, and spiritual character. The cliche, "IF, YOU CAN MAKE IT HERE, YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE"was real for David. Upon returning home from the New York school of hard knocks, David immediately immersed himself in acting. David's first role as an actor was in Darryl Robert's film, "How You Like Me Now", starring Sally Richardson. That was the beginning of a string of movies; "Heroes" starring Dustin Hoffman, and "Working Nine to Five" starring Dolly Parton. The most exciting and defining moment in David's acting came when he had the opportunity to play in two opera's at the Lyric Opera House of Chicago: "Mephistopheles" starring Samuel Ramey and "I Puritan" starring Brad Cresswell. He was so happy to give his mother a Mother's Day gift at the opera. It was a first time experience for me, my mother & sister, I will always cherish that day. "DREAMS DO COME TRUE, IF YOU, ONLY BELIEVE THEY DO"! - David Risqué
